THE INTERESTS OF GREEK CYPRIOTS AND TURKEY WILL BE DISCUSSED IN GENEVA; WE ARE ABSENT!

This post is also available in: ΕΛΛΗΝΙΚΑ (GREEK) TÜRKÇE (TURKISH)

As the Geneva Summit approaches, my sadness and astonishment heightens!

Why is that so?

-*-*-

For example, such names as Ersin Tatar, or Tahsin Ertuğruloğlu, who make statements from time to time in the TRNC, ‘are speaking to a void’…

-*-*-

They have no tangible, concrete proposals for Geneva.

“Equal sovereignty… Full independence…”

-*-*-

Yet, even in this they are not consistent within themselves!

And that’s sad!

-*-*-

Of course, I have nothing against determining a policy in co-operation and solidarity with Turkey, but the standards of doing it should not be so pathetic!

There is an astonishing level of ‘indifference’, or ‘complete surrender to Turkey’!

-*-*-

As a society, we have been pursuing a common policy with Turkey since 1958, but in the last four to five years, more precisely after Ersin Tatar was elected, we have arrived at such a point that not a single ‘advantage’, or ‘desire’ of the ‘Turkish Cypriot Community’ is discussed!

Turkey’s interests and demands of the Greek Cypriot community are battling at the table!

And we are just looking!

-*-*-

Oh, I am sure that the Greek Cypriot side is also acting together with Greece…

However, the impression they give does not contain as much ‘social humiliation’ as ours…

The Greek Cypriot community and its leader are absolutely decisive within the process…

Our society, on the other hand, first consists of ‘obedient – subservient – self-interested – power addicts’ and then secondly of ‘traitors’…

-*-*-

We are talking about those who say ‘fine’ to whatever Turkey says, and benefit from the existing status quo, and those who say ‘we, too, exist’ and are labelled as ‘traitors’!

-*-*-

After all, the Greek Cypriot side is going to Geneva as a ‘whole’…

We are waiting for instructions from Turkey as to who or who will go to represent us!

-*-*-

And it is also clear what Nikos Christodoulides said.

-*-*-

The Greek Cypriot leader says, “We are going to Geneva with a specific plan, with concrete proposals to be put on the negotiating table… Bilateral contacts and especially those bilateral contacts with the UN Secretary General will be decisive within the process… We have two options before us; either we will constantly talk about Turkish stubbornness, or we will do everything possible for the end of the occupation and the reunification of our homeland”…

-*-*-

The Greek Cypriot defense minister also gives some hints about ‘what they will demand’, and says, “… a country freed from troops and guarantors where its lawful inhabitants can live together in security, equality and prosperity…”

-*-*-

And what about our politicians?

Brother, what do we care about the Cyprus issue?

That is between Greek Cypriots and Turkey!

We are only interested in vital matters such as whether the UBP will nominate Ünal Üstel, or support Ersin Tatar in the presidential election…

-*-*-

Well, is there anyone who is worried, saddened, stunned by the current situation, saying, “We are about to go extinct, we are disappearing, shame on us; is that what all these struggles and martyrs were for?”

No, there is no one!

Maybe me and three, or five other people…

And we’re always one of those traitors!
