ON THE BRINK OF APOCALYPSE: A STEP TOWARDS PEACE

ΕΛΛΗΝΙΚΑ (GREEK) TÜRKÇE (TURKISH)

In the midst of turbulence, the world is shaking in the shadow of a nuclear war. Ukraine’s use of US missiles against Russia has prompted Moscow to change its nuclear doctrine. Europe is distributing ‘war survival’ manuals to its citizens, explaining which medicines and masks should be kept on hand in the event of a nuclear attack.

The newly elected US president had promised to end this war in one day. But two and a half months to his inauguration, the world ruled by Biden is becoming even more complicated. Everyone is using this time to maximise their own interests, and the cards are being redistributed.

While global public opinion expects peace and tranquility, we know that the calculations of the imperialist powers are not short-term. With Trump taking office, it will not be surprising to expect new agreements and solutions on critical issues such as Ukraine-Russia, Israel-Palestine, Syria, Turkey-Greece-Cyprus.

In these gloomy days, Greek Cypriot leader Nikos Christodoulides’ love for the United States raises serious concerns. Our beautiful island is surrounded by masses of iron committing crimes against humanity. The high seas and skies are filled with military exercises against the enemy. World leaders are running their countries like a corporation, following what comes out of the mouths of arms dealers. Christodoulides’ endeavour to become an advanced ally of the United States is dragging Cyprus into greater risks. My advice to the Greek Cypriot leader is that instead of looking at distant America, he should analyse the situation in Turkey, which has been an ‘ally’ of the US for the past hundred years!

Cypriots are being tossed about in this hurricane. The communities need to realize the danger and come up with their own solutions. Otherwise, we may be forced to accept the solutions put forward by ‘Big Brother’. While we say that even the worst solution is better than no solution, at a point where hopes are exhausted, we may encounter a new status quo.

In the midst of this chaos, taking one more step towards peace may be the strongest proposal that will shape our future.
