President of the Republic of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulidis, has announced that he will attend the 2026 UN Climate Change Conference in Turkey…
-*-*-
The 2026 UN Climate Change Conference will take place in Antalya from 9 to 20 November 2026!
-*-*-
For the first time since 1974, a Greek Cypriot leader—namely the president of the Republic of Cyprus—will be travelling to Turkey, whether officially, or unofficially…
-*-*-
Incidentally, I would have understood if the invitation had been ‘unofficial’, but the invitation in question is official!
-*-*-
Turkey may not have officially extended the invitation!
The meeting is organised by the United Nations, but the venue is in Turkey!
-*-*-
Turkey and Australia will co-chair the 2026 UN Climate Change Conference…
-*-*-
Now there are meetings here in our country regarding the Organisation of Turkic States, or whatever it’s called…
-*-*-
They’ve also convened with our journalist colleagues!
-*-*-
The Organisation of Turkic States, acting on behalf of the TRNC and in the name of a two-state solution, is a fiasco; from the perspective of Turkish foreign policy, it is an absolute disgrace…
-*-*-
It is, quite literally, a case of “we tried, but it failed”!
-*-*-
If we look at the issue from the perspective of ‘recognition of the TRNC as an equal and sovereign state’, all the Turkic states have not only left Turkey in the lurch, but have stabbed it in the back!
-*-*-
Not a single Turkic state has responded to the Turkish President’s call at the United Nations General Assembly, made five years running, to ‘recognise the TRNC’!
No one has recognised the TRNC!
Not even a single one has so much as glanced in the TRNC’s direction!
-*-*-
This situation amounts to a complete disgrace for Turkey’s Cyprus policy!
-*-*-
The fact that Nikos Christodoulides is due to attend the event in Antalya as ‘President’ is nothing more than a clear indication that Turkey’s Cyprus policy has completely collapsed!
-*-*-
To sum up…
-*-*-
Turkey appears to have changed its Cyprus policy…
Among the nearly a thousand ‘fictitious’ projects that the UBP has been touting with great fanfare over the last few days, is the fact that ‘our state’s equal sovereignty’ not emphasized—or indeed mentioned at all—perhaps one of the signs of a change in Turkey’s policy?
I believe it is!
