We have a government that is hostile to its citizens… Yes, national leaders who work against the people and cause them distress…
Those in power have, for quite some time now, been imposing on the people things they do not want, things that cause them anxiety, and things they fear will harm them; they do not listen to objections, or take concerns into account.
They have a despotic attitude, acting with a “I’ll do it my way” mindset.
They have no concern for ethics, or morality, nor do they care about the Constitution, or the laws.
Even though their decisions, actions, and decrees with the force of law have been overturned by the courts time and again, they persist in their wrongdoing.
The lies, contradictory statements, empty rhetoric, and policies designed to create tension never cease.
Setting aside the government’s failure, incompetence, and lack of expertise—and the fact that it has bankrupted public finances—the state has never before been so mired in corruption, irregularities, and lawlessness.
Unbelievable things are happening: the Prime Minister’s Chief of Staff and the Chairman of the Central Tender Commission have been arrested on charges of corruption and bribery.
The names of many other high-ranking officials are being linked to corruption, bribery, and human trafficking. They even dragged Cypruvex into human trafficking issues, putting it in a difficult position.
There is also a diploma fraud scandal centered on the UBP, the government’s major coalition partner, which has spread like a virus infecting the public sector… A prime example of corruption…
With the indulgence of those in power, non-governmental groups and overly privileged individuals have begun meddling in state affairs; these people are involved in every matter, engaging in unimaginable deeds… These are also a problem…
The government, unable to find solutions to vital issues, is not able to give its people any peace… One imposition ends, and another begins.
The Fiber Optic Protocol, signed in secret and lacking transparency, which excludes national interests and local investors, and renders the Telecommunications Department powerless… The giveaway of thousands of acres of forest land to a university… An attempt to amend the Penal Code to eliminate freedom of thought and expression… An attempt to abolish the Medical Specialization Entrance Exam (TUS), or the central exam for students pursuing specialization in medicine and dentistry at universities in the TRNC… Legislation aimed at extending the cost-of-living allowance for the first three months of the year and freezing it for the remaining nine months…
It never ends, it’s unbearable; they’ve worn this society down, driven people to despair.
The UBP-DP-YDP Government, which came to power with the promise of serving the people, solving problems, and providing better living conditions, has instead become a nightmare for the citizens.
They were supposed to be the so-called ‘servants of the people’, but once they got their hands on power, they turned into the ‘masters of the people’. They have a despotic mindset that disregards laws and rules, and pays no heed to the people’s sensitivities…
And they even tried to link their outrageous actions to the war in the Middle East… Come on, you bankrupted the public finances long ago; for months now, you’ve been paying public sector employees’ salaries by taking on debt, and the debt keeps piling up.
Those in power have found themselves in a dead end due to their mistakes and incompetence, so they’ve resorted to fiddling with the cost-of-living allowances. This isn’t just an issue of the cost-of-living for public sector employees; the minimum wage increase will only be granted for the first three months of the year, and private sector workers won’t receive a minimum wage increase for nine months.
Meanwhile, many employers are in an uproar, stating that they made all their plans for the first six months and, having not yet adapted to the previous minimum wage increase, will face difficulties due to the sudden rise.
In other words, no one is pleased with the government’s handling of the cost-of-living allowance; no one is satisfied.
However, the government is determined to pass its draft bill. Consequently, protests took place in front of Parliament, with police and protesters facing off and scuffles breaking out.
Following this, Prime Minister Ünal Üstel met with President Tufan Erhürman; President Erhürman met with union representatives; and in the Parliament, union representatives met with government officials, with talk of forming a committee. What is the goal? A so-called dialogue will be established, a compromise will be found… The Parliament convened and then dissolved; the Speaker of Parliament stated that the Parliament would not reconvene until the following Monday, giving an opportunity for dialogue to take place.
It turns out it was all a sham, it turns out it was all a lie… While all these so-called dialogue efforts were ongoing, they issued a decree with the force of law at 2:00 PM that very same day regarding the cost-of-living adjustment.
They made a mockery of everyone and did exactly what they intended… In the midst of such a sea of lies, they issued a decree with the force of law and then brazenly defended it. What was the excuse? If the legislative process drags on into April, they’d have to pay for that month as well, so they secured themselves with a decree.
Is it innocent to deceive everyone, including the President, and then issue a decree with the force of law? I’m amazed at those who say what the Prime Minister and the Government did was a clever and good tactic. What cleverness? What tactic? This is outright lying, disrespect, and brazenness… Is lying to everyone and deceiving them a virtue?
When the President reacted to this situation, the Prime Minister issued a statement calling on the President to show “seriousness,” “respect for the rule of law,” and to “avoid creating a crisis of confidence.”
It’s as if the world has turned upside down. The Prime Minister is actually violating everything he calls for. And not just in this latest incident… Both he and the government have a track record of breaking these very principles.
What on earth are we going through? Amid lies, deceit, and disrespect, they’re seriously trying to convince us that what they’re doing is right… They know they’re on their way out, but it seems they’ve sworn to leave no stone unturned before they go… What’s truly sad is that, even though the public doesn’t trust ,or believe in this group, the vast majority remains indifferent and unresponsive… I wonder what else needs to happen?
