THE MIND HAS GONE ON VACATION

The main purpose of the recent laws, regulations and protocols is to bring the citizens of the Republic of Turkey to the north of the island without any obstacles. And to create as much difficulty as possible for those who are not Turkish citizens…
They want Turkey to settle here.
In all circumstances…
***
As you have seen in the law on “Acquisition of Immovable Property and Long Term Leasing “, there was supposed to be a restriction on ‘foreigners’ buying land from the island.
Turkish citizens were granted ‘triple’ rights.
You saw it in the industrial zones!
A thousand and one mind games so that industrialists from Turkey can come and no one else can…
***
I recently read a new decision.
The criterion of ‘the ability to speak Turkish’ has been introduced for foreign workers coming to the north of the island to work.
The ‘Minister of Labour’ says that they have done this “in order to protect the local labour force”!
Then why are you not implementing some of the already existing laws? For example, architects who are not ‘citizens’ cannot draft projects!
The architect of the new presidential campus is from Turkey…
They grant ‘exceptional’ citizenships to circumvent the law….
Near the end of construction…
He is not a member of any of our professional organisations.
What happened to your ‘protectionist’ attitude?
***
What I don’t understand is, will a foreigner learn Turkish and then come to the island to work?
Let’s say a gardener…
Isn’t the main thing to be competent in the given field?
What if the labourer who died in the quarry while driving a truck without a driving licence spoke Turkish? Would people be lamenting in Turkish?
Isn’t it enough for a baker to make good bread, take care of hygiene, and have a good character?
And isn’t it enough for an electrician to know about electricity and a plasterer to know about plastering.
Oh, if there’s a local one…
Don’t let them come even if he speaks Turkish!
***
It is important that we teach these people—and especially their children—Turkish… But saying “If he doesn’t speak Turkish, he shouldn’t come” is a different kind of goal and plan…
I hope I am misunderstanding this.
Because they said, “From now on, when registering foreign workers, we will ask to see a certificate of Turkish proficiency certicate”…
Of course, language is important…
Depending on the job…
For example, if they will be a waitress, or a receptionist, there may be a requirement to speak English.
I can understand the requirement for Turkish proficiency, if it’s home care.
Much more importantly, knowledge in health and care…
But if someone is a chef specialized in Japanese cuisine, he should know how to make ‘sushi’ instead of how to speak Turkish, am I wrong?
***
We have seen this logic of population engineering in the issue of driving licences as well.
If you have a Turkish driver’s licence, you go directly into traffic.
But contrary to Turkey, traffic in Cyprus is left-sided!
It has nothing to do with the “motherland and baby-land” discourse, or the issue of being “recognised, or unrecognised ’.
They will die on the roads…
They will kill on the roads…
But if they are a “citizen of another country”…
Then they will take 10 lessons and an exam…
How could a judgement on this be based on nationality?
Moreover, it has got nothing to do with loving the citizens of the Republic of Turkey, or not…
On the contrary.
It has got everything to do with sending them to their death, so blatantly…
***
Imagine, in England the traffic is left-sided, but we don’t recognize their driving licence.
They are obliged to take a course!
And then a test!
But there is an ‘agreement on mutual recognition and exchange of national driving licenses and certificates’ with Turkey, so no courses, or exams…
***
There is no importance of universal, or scientific criteria… There is either nationalism, or an order of commands in everything we do… A complete model of sub-governance… In order for one half of the island to be Cyprus, and the other half to be Turkey, the mind has gone on vacation…
