THE WORLD OF THOSE WHO WORSHIP POWER

This post is also available in: ΕΛΛΗΝΙΚΑ (GREEK) TÜRKÇE (TURKISH)

The world, our neighbouring countries, and our country should be governed by sensible people…
People who are sensitive, who respect democracy and freedom, who prioritise human rights…

People who are not blinded by greed, who rely on friendship rather than anger…
Good people should govern…
But being ‘good’ is not enough!
We need knowledgeable, cultured, civilized leaders,
Those who are committed to peace and follow the path of truth…

Of course, we need leaders who understand history, law, politics, and philosophy
but that is not enough.
We need leaders who have love for humanity in their hearts…
Who believe in equality, who do not give up on justice, who are not at a loss of words or, will…

Leaders who put humanity at the centre of life…
As the poet says, ‘I swear that / No bullet / No steel / No soil / No flag / And no homeland / Is more sacred than humanity…’

A wisdom as such is what will keep us safe…

***

Think about the great disasters that the humanity has endured…
Who was responsible?

The 70 million deaths caused by Hitler…
Stalin’s oppression that crushed freedoms…
Mao’s tyranny, Mussolini’s fascism, Milošević’s bloody legacy…

They were all the same.
They worshipped power!

They became the sole centers of authority and suspended the rule of law.
Arbitrary arrests, silenced opponents…

They chose conflict over diplomacy.
They nurtured hatred instead of dialogue.
They hid the truth.

They thought they could rule by terrifying the people.
They always pointed at ‘external forces’.
They polarised societies.

They turned nationalism into an unquestionable belief.
Every wrong was covered up with religion and tradition.

They declared themselves ‘saviors’ and demanded loyalty.

They sanctified obedience.

They knew no boundaries and invaded other countries.

***

Pay attention to those who speak the language of hostility even when condemning war.

Those who spew hatred, point fingers, divide, and separate…
The same mindset is embedded in all of them.

While criticising others’ weapons, cannons, and trenches, they rest their own minds on barricades, call for the military, boast about their weapons, and salute warplanes.

Such people do not believe in the brotherhood of peoples, but in the superiority of their own race.
They feed on conflict, not peace.
Hostility is their sustenance…

They share the same concern; they put their own power before the will of the people and democracy.

***

That is why it is very important who societies choose, what they listen to, and who they tolerate.

Take those who consider criticism as treason seriously.
They are dangerous!
Beware of those who always talk about enemies…
They will lead you to disaster!

If they lack capacity…
If they lack knowledge, experience, dignity, and integrity…
Keep them away from the future of your loved ones…

***

This old planet is going through difficult times.
Our divided homeland is filled with uncertainty regarding the future as never before.
The closest countries to us are deprived of democracy and freedom…

But this must not continue…
The world, our neighboring regions, and our country must be governed by people of sound mind…
