\nFrom within…

Just as we are unable to govern the place we live in we are also unable to raise our voice.
\nWhile the individual who has symbolically assumed the role of \u201cPrime Minister\u201d<\/strong> holds press conferences, \u201cmaking all sorts of promises\u201d<\/strong> the \u201cAmbassador\u201d<\/strong> also known as the \u201cGovernor\u201d<\/strong> who effectively and actively controls the administration roams around; the State Laboratory, the parliament premises, the Department of Water Works!<\/p>\n

A voice rises from the \u201cback yard [Bah\u00e7eli<\/em>]\u201d<\/strong> of the \u201cstate [Devlet<\/em>]\u201d<\/strong> which divides Cyprus by guaranteeing the unity of Cyprus: \u201cWhat do you mean we shouldn\u2019t interfere in the domestic politics of Turkish Cypriots…\u201d<\/strong> [Translator\u2019s note: author uses word play to refer to Turkey\u2019s Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) leader Devlet Bah\u00e7eli after he criticized the Turkish opposition for saying it was important to keep out of Turkish Cypriot politics<\/em>]
\nThese words are like bullets!
\nThey were spoken shamelessly, without hesitation, without the smallest remorse!
\n“Not interfering in the internal affairs of Turkish Cypriots means handing the island over to the Greek Cypriots.”<\/strong><\/p>\n

Did the “puppets” say anything in response to these words?
\nNo!
\nIf their position is secure…
\nIf their family, their children, their kin, their supporters can have their loans, their privileges, land, jobs, promotions, incentives, and their benefits are all okay…
\nIf the coastal areas are handed out, if citizenships are granted on an \u201cexceptional\u201d<\/strong> basis…
\nIf new permits for quarries are to be given and mountains are to be carved…
\nIf our cities are to turn into jungles of concrete…
\nIf new washing machines at the money laundering hub will be supervised…
\nThen the rest is “The mountains are covered in smoke”<\/strong>… [Translator\u2019s note: Author refers to the Turkish Youth Anthem, the Youth March<\/em>]<\/p>\n

And it\u2019s not a problem if you need to find 27 Turkish Liras to buy one pound sterling…
\nEven if we shut our doors to the world, if we rot from within, even if we lose our young people to migration…<\/p>\n

The man knows neither history nor humanity…<\/p>\n

When the Ottomans led by Abdulhamid II sold off the island, he commanded the Turkish Cypriots to “Obey the English.”<\/strong>
\nNo one obeyed the command.
\nIf you were to ask the old folks today, they would tell you, “Oh, how we wish we had remained under British colonial rule.”<\/strong>
\nAfter having experienced “Turkish colonial rule”…<\/strong><\/p>\n

As if it was someone else who was completely prepared to sacrifice the island when signing the Treaty of Lausanne…
\nThe statement “For us there is no problem called the Cyprus problem”<\/strong> was uttered more recently, in the 1950s, in the Turkish Grand National Assembly. [Translator\u2019s note: Author refers to a statement by former Turkish foreign minister Fuat K\u00f6pr\u00fcl\u00fc made in the Turkish Parliament<\/em>].
\nIt’s clear who created and who destroyed the Republic of Cyprus…
\nIf not for Cypriots, what business do you have here?<\/strong><\/p>\n

“If we fall into a state where we have been stripped of our identity and personality, and if we fail to show any reaction, then anything can\u00a0 happen to us. A<\/strong>s long as we submit and surrender, <\/strong>we will inevitably disintegrate and disappear,”<\/strong> Kutlu Adal\u0131 once said.

Nomads in our homeland<\/h3>\n

Democracy has been taken hostage in this half of the island.<\/strong>
\nWillpower is lost!<\/strong>
\nThe population has been changed and through bilateral protocols almost all institutions are now managed from across the sea.<\/p>\n

All of this is not new, and it didn’t happen in a day.
\nWe reached this through a political climate of \u201cpleading and begging\u201d <\/strong>so as to
\n“Try and please Turkey…” <\/strong>
\n“By keeping silent against Turkey…” <\/strong>
\n“Not to offend Turkey…” <\/strong>
\n\u00a0<\/strong>
\n\u00a0<\/strong>As we turned a blind eye to acts of annexation, integration, and assimilation, the reality became clearer and the interference grew deeper and deeper.
\nAs we adapted to the “TRNC”<\/strong> order, our capacity to be actors vanished.
\nA homeland was sacrificed to positions, salaries, power, greed, and shamelessness!<\/strong><\/p>\n

The majority of society and political elites succumbed to such “psychological pressure”.<\/strong>
\nA vision for a future with Greek Cypriots was associated with being “anti-Turkey.”<\/strong>
\nGetting \u201ccloser\u201d<\/strong> to one side was considered \u201cdistancing\u201d<\/strong> oneself from the other.
\nShowing \u201clove\u201d<\/strong> for one was recognised as placing \u201cblame\u201d<\/strong> on the other.
\nLove for the other half of Cyprus was forbidden! <\/strong>
\nCooperation was condemned!
\nRoles were shared on who is “more Turkish and more Muslim”<\/strong>, belonging\u00a0 to Cyprus was forgotten, its culture and identity not preserved.
\nPeople became nomads in their own homeland! <\/strong>
\nHomeless in their own homeland!<\/strong><\/p>\n

\n

Turkey \u201cvote\u201d for us as well!<\/strong>
\n\u00a0<\/strong><\/h3>\n

You know Turkey will be electing its \u201cPresident\u201d<\/strong> right?
\nThe northern part of Cyprus has never been so focused on its own elections.<\/p>\n

Because those who run for the office are the ones who will \u201cselect\u201d<\/strong> the Turkish Cypriot leader…
\nThe \u201cTRNC President\u201d<\/strong> and \u201cTRNC Prime Minister\u201d<\/strong> have been appointed by Ankara for some time now….
\nThe \u201cTRNC government\u201d<\/strong> is formed there as well.
\nAnd in fact…
\nThe UBP [National Unity Party<\/em>] congress is being managed from there as well.<\/p>\n

According to some this has always been the case…<\/p>\n

The election in Turkey will concern the politics of Cyprus closely.
\nThe stones will shift here too!
\nThe economy is the biggest concern, then comes democracy!<\/p>\n

Who will be elected?
\nAccording to the latest three polls, Kemal K\u0131l\u0131\u00e7daro\u011flu will have a comfortable win…
\nIn fact it won\u2019t be a surprise if he wins in the first round.
\nOf course, the concept of \u201cOpinion Polls\u201d<\/strong> is directly related to democracy and freedoms…
\nThe more there is democracy in a country, the more there are freedoms, the more reliable such polls become.<\/p>\n

What will happen will happen and we will see.
