{"id":9706,"date":"2023-05-23T09:37:01","date_gmt":"2023-05-23T06:37:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/penna.cydialogue.org\/?p=9706"},"modified":"2023-06-01T17:42:08","modified_gmt":"2023-06-01T14:42:08","slug":"while-the-voice-of-hezbollah-echoes-in-the-turkish-parliament","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/penna.cydialogue.org\/while-the-voice-of-hezbollah-echoes-in-the-turkish-parliament\/","title":{"rendered":"WHILE THE VOICE OF HEZBOLLAH ECHOES IN THE TURKISH PARLIAMENT"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"bsf_rt_marker\"><\/div><p>They describe our strange relationship as &#8220;inseparable&#8221;&#8230;<br \/>\nWe receive a share of whatever&#8217;s cooking there&#8230;<br \/>\nWhen you&#8217;re so &#8216;intertwined&#8217; with Turkey, you can&#8217;t write about anything else&#8230;<br \/>\nYou can&#8217;t ignore the elections&#8230;<br \/>\nWith a newly invented fake term, they call it \u201cfraternity law\u201d&#8230;<br \/>\nYou&#8217;re tied to them like a knot on the umbilical cord&#8230;<br \/>\nYour own future is directly related to the elections there&#8230;<br \/>\nYou feel this down to your pocket and down to your bones&#8230;<br \/>\nYou\u2019re terrified as to \u201cWhen the exchange rate will explode?\u201d<br \/>\nEvery penny you earn is at the discretion of Ankara&#8230;<br \/>\nYou&#8217;re melting away as you walk towards the future&#8230;<br \/>\nYour money, your dreams, your existence is melting away&#8230;<br \/>\nYet, millions of people in Turkey who don\u2019t have any concerns about &#8216;democracy&#8217; don&#8217;t think like you&#8230;<br \/>\nThey like &#8216;authoritarianism&#8217;&#8230;<br \/>\nThey like the intertwining of party and state&#8230;<br \/>\nMillions don&#8217;t care about the &#8216;law&#8217;&#8230;<br \/>\nThey don&#8217;t worry about having &#8216;freedom of press&#8217;&#8230;<br \/>\nIn fact, while they are unable to fill their &#8216;grocery bags&#8217; at the market, they find comfort by repeating &#8216;the flag will always fly, the call to prayer will never cease&#8217;&#8230;<br \/>\nThey watch with admiration the Ottomans swinging swords in television series and the Arab-loving imams in mosques preaching&#8230;<br \/>\nOf course, creating such a &#8220;society&#8221; was certainly not easy&#8230;<br \/>\nThe fellowship of &#8220;National Vision&#8221; initially faced many difficulties&#8230;<br \/>\nHowever, thanks to the &#8220;hypocrites&#8221; who came after Erbakan, &#8220;religion&#8221; and politics merged&#8230;<br \/>\nWithin 20 years, Turkish society underwent a complete &#8220;transformation&#8221;&#8230;<br \/>\nAs a result, starting next Monday, the blood-stained &#8220;Hezbollah&#8221; will have its &#8220;voice&#8221; echoed in the Turkish Parliament&#8230;<br \/>\nDebates will intensify on whether \u201cnationalism\u201d that is arm-in-arm with &#8220;Islamism based on the ummah&#8221; or Kemalist nationalism, which represents one of the six arrows of the CHP [<em>Republican People&#8217;s Party<\/em>], should be opted for&#8230;<br \/>\nMHP [<em>Nationalist Movement Party<\/em>] nationalism will compete with \u0130Y\u0130 [<em>Good Party<\/em>] and CHP nationalism&#8230;<br \/>\nTelevision series where we hear and see &#8220;bismillah&#8221; [<em>in the name of Allah<\/em>], prayers, fasting, mosques, and imams will multiply&#8230;<br \/>\nTurkey will settle into its new &#8220;position&#8221; in the Middle East&#8230;<br \/>\nShaping its &#8220;survival&#8221; with Arabism and Ottomanism&#8230;<br \/>\nIf Mr Erdo\u011fan wins the second round of elections, all of these will undoubtedly be experienced to an even greater extent&#8230;<br \/>\nWell then, can an election victory by K\u0131l\u0131\u00e7daro\u011flu next Sunday reverse this course?<br \/>\nFirst, let&#8217;s determine this: It is certainly possible for K\u0131l\u0131\u00e7daro\u011flu to win the second round of elections&#8230;<br \/>\nEspecially since it is understood that the CHP flunked on the issue of &#8220;ballot security&#8221; and is weaker against the organized power of the AKP [<em>Justice and Development Party<\/em>], measures can be taken to prevent this [<em>from happening again<\/em>]&#8230;<br \/>\nIn short, K\u0131l\u0131\u00e7daro\u011flu can win the second round of elections. However, any such victory would be a &#8220;Pyrrhic victory&#8221;&#8230;<br \/>\n<strong>As meaningless as the Roman victory of\u00a0 Pyrrhus, King of Tarentum&#8230;<\/strong><br \/>\nAnd here is the reason:<br \/>\nWhat was the biggest claim of the &#8220;Table of Six&#8221;?<br \/>\nTo put an end to the &#8220;Presidential+Government&#8221; system&#8230;<br \/>\nTo switch to a &#8220;strengthened parliamentary system&#8221;&#8230;<br \/>\nAll these remain a fantasy for now&#8230;<br \/>\nSo is changing the constitution, reorganizing the separation of powers, and getting rid of a partisan President&#8230;<br \/>\nIf K\u0131l\u0131\u00e7daro\u011flu emerges victorious from the ballot box on Sunday, Turkey will witness a &#8220;conflict&#8221; between the CHP &#8220;President&#8221; elected by the people and the AKP-MHP majority in parliament&#8230;<br \/>\nWhen K\u0131l\u0131\u00e7daro\u011flu tries to use the authoritarian &#8220;powers&#8221; that Erdo\u011fan has utilized, he will face attacks from both his own camp and from the AKP and MHP&#8230;<br \/>\nHowever, despite all these negatives, it is possible to say that K\u0131l\u0131\u00e7daro\u011flu&#8217;s victory in the second round will bring partial relief to Turkey&#8230;<br \/>\nDomestically, debates about the &#8220;ineffective and uncontrolled parliament&#8221; gifted to Turkish politics by Erdo\u011fan will increase political tension&#8230;<br \/>\nThere is no doubt about that&#8230;<br \/>\nHowever, Turkey\u2019s relations with the world, the US and the West will see some easing&#8230;<br \/>\nTurkey will be viewed more positively in terms of foreign aid, loans, and investments&#8230;<br \/>\nPerhaps it will move a few steps up in the global democracy index&#8230;<br \/>\nBut Turkey&#8217;s fundamental structural problems will continue to persist&#8230;<br \/>\nAt the forefront of these problems is the &#8220;integration of state and party&#8221;&#8230;<br \/>\nThe President is the leader of a party&#8230;<br \/>\nHe attends party congresses, holds power over everything, and makes all the decisions&#8230;<br \/>\nHe has no concern about &#8220;embracing&#8221; all of the people&#8230;<br \/>\nIn fact, he sees no harm in attacking the opposition with excessively fanatic party rhetoric&#8230;<br \/>\nThis &#8220;picture&#8221; is perhaps the biggest price Turkey has paid in the past 21 years&#8230;<br \/>\nIt has transitioned from a multi-party political structure to an almost single-party structure&#8230;<br \/>\nParty officials in the provinces are intertwined with the state&#8217;s Governors and District Governors&#8230;<br \/>\nIn the recent elections, the &#8220;integration of state and party&#8221; was actively present in the field&#8230;<br \/>\nWhile the AKP was allocated rally venues in cities several times, such opportunities were not provided to the opposition&#8230;<br \/>\nThe state&#8217;s official news agency, &#8220;AA&#8221; [<em>Anadolu Agency<\/em>], was used like a propaganda machine&#8230;<br \/>\nSo was the TRT [<em>Turkish Radio and Television Corporation<\/em>]&#8230;<br \/>\nWe couldn&#8217;t see even a trace of &#8220;democratic sensitivity&#8221; in the elections&#8230;<br \/>\nThe &#8220;reflection of free will at the ballot box&#8221; was literally under siege&#8230;<br \/>\nDuring the election process, positions and ranks were distributed&#8230;<br \/>\nPromises that could be considered &#8220;bribes&#8221; were made, and money was handed out&#8230;<br \/>\nTens of thousands of teachers were appointed&#8230;<br \/>\nInauguration ceremonies continued without interruption&#8230; President Erdo\u011fan attended inauguration ceremonies even between two elections&#8230; He gave speeches&#8230; Governors and District Governors participated in election campaigns using state facilities, including official cars&#8230;<br \/>\nA &#8220;Supreme Election Board&#8221; consisting of judges, appointed by the President himself who was also running in the elections, managed the entire process&#8230;<br \/>\nUnfortunately, this was not an &#8220;election&#8221; that was accessible to the scrutiny and reporting of international observers&#8230;<br \/>\nThat&#8217;s why both K\u0131l\u0131\u00e7daro\u011flu and Erdo\u011fan can only achieve a victory like the one achieved by King Pyrrhus&#8230;<br \/>\nBut Turkey will continue to look at democracy from afar for many more
