“NO TO WAR, YES TO ARMS AND SOLDIERS” IS NOT SINCERE

ΕΛΛΗΝΙΚΑ (GREEK) TÜRKÇE (TURKISH)

The heart of the world is bleeding, humanity is unable to resist evil and goodness is not being organised sufficiently…
Not the tears but the eyes of children are falling to the ground…
The bodies, dreams and smiles of the innocent are turning to ash and dragged into a dark well where minds are totally eclipsed on this increasingly revulsive earth.

Those who use peoples as stepping stones to power still cannot get enough land, blood and conflict…

Those who order war, hide behind peace.
And words beginning with “defence” are followed by funerals.

***

So, saying “No to war” is not enough…
Ask for a country without soldiers, without guns, without bullets.
A country without borders!
Only then will your utopia for peace be sincere.

You will give up the shows of revenge.
You will promote rapprochement, co-operation and friendship, not hatred and resentment.
You will not provoke!

You will say no to the barricades!
And to the possibility of war…
You will destroy the trenches to oppose war…

***

We are tested against those who consider it an honour to teach young people to kill.
Now our test is against those who sanctify death…
The world is weeping with shame for those who consider the flag more sacred than human life…
Towards the ambition of those who see the land as power not as a homeland…
And most of those tears are hypocritical, most of them fake.

In the words of Neşe Yaşın, “O you who wear every disguise and are clowns to every king” wipe away your fake tears, the nation is oppressive with your anger, ambition and rage!

***

That’s why my opinion doesn’t change, that’s why I believe even stronger now…
My greatest dream is to see the last soldier – and all the weapons – gone from the island of Cyprus, not a single barricade left, and Cyprus reunited. I cannot imagine a more beautiful dream for Cyprus.

Because to live in a place under ceasefire, you cannot feel the peace.
You will need to eliminate any reason so that, that fire is not sparked again
“No to war, yes to arms and soldiers” is not sincere.
The skill is to bury the weapons seven layers deep under the ground…
If you don’t bury those weapons, a day will come where you will bury innocents under the ground…

***

How right was Bertolt Brecht…
“From every war there remains three armies: The army of the dead, the army of mourners and the army of thieves.”
And then there are the eyes blinded by nationalism…

***

“Brother, can you hear me?” says a child to his friend lying in a pool of blood, his face and eyes covered…
“Please speak up, don’t sleep, stay awake…”

We are being put to sleep for years, on the edge of barbarity…
To wake up, we must resist to all that feeds war.
Stubbornly, persistently, and decisively.
