SIMPLY PUT: WHY IS H.A., AN OFFICER AT THE TRİKOMO POLICE, STILL THE PRIME SUSPECT?

This post is also available in: ΕΛΛΗΝΙΚΑ (GREEK) TÜRKÇE (TURKISH)

H.A, ex-boyfriend of 26-year-old Ahsen Nur Kilitçioğlu and an officer of the Trikomo Police Department suspected of her mysterious death, is still the prime suspect in the eyes of the family, Ahsen’s closest friends, and the public.

Why is that?

Let’s look at two different scenarios.

***

Let’s write the first scenario and evaluate how the process would have unfolded if this were the case:

– On the morning of 30 May, when Ahsen’s lifeless body is found on the beach by citizens and the police takes statements from her family and closest friends.

– Details about H.A. in these statements are also duly recorded in the reports by the Famagusta police.

H.A is immediately suspended from duty as part of the investigation. This is because he is also an investigating police officer and must be prevented from interfering with the process.

-H.A‘s statement is taken, and he remains in custody during the process of confirming and refuting this statement.

-During this process, the police determines where H.A. was at the time of Ahsen‘s death or murder, using camera recordings, phone signals, and statements from people who say they were with him.

-And makes all this information public by saying, “Here is the proof! H.A. was here at that time, here are the phone signals, here are the camera recordings…

What would have happened if all these procedures were put into effect?

In the eyes of the family and society, H.A. would have been cleared, and the investigation process would have continued as it should. Perhaps, in the meantime, the real killer would not have escaped the authorities’ attention.

***

Now, let’s look at what actually happened:

-From the first day of the incident until today, the Famagusta police have refused to take statements from the family, including the mother, and close friends, and have even argued with lawyers regarding this matter.

-They removed the part about H.A. from a statement that was taken and did not include it in the records. Just by doing this, the police have committed a crime through malpractice!

-H.A. has not been suspended from duty for even an hour since the first day of the investigation! H.A., who works at the Trikomo Police Department, is an experienced police officer who is well versed in what the police accept as evidence and what is done in an investigation; yet, he has remained on duty! This situation has raised suspicions once again!

-Days and weeks passed. Under public pressure, the Police General Directorate was forced to make a statement, but only ended up saying, “We also took a statement from H.A.”

-H.A. could not provide any documents, or information, proving where he was at the time Ahsen was killed, or died!

-He did not explain why he was not suspended from duty.

-They did not explain why the statements of the family and close relatives, including the mother, were not taken. No action was taken against the police officers who did not take the statements!

-They did not explain how H.A.’s name was removed from the statement.

***

And then, what happened?

Days later, H.A.‘s name appeared on the police promotion list!

So, if H.A. had been suspended as part of this investigation, and the complaints against him had been recorded and enforced, the promotion would not have happened!

So everything was done for H.A. to get promoted!

Yes, the death of a young woman was not more important than a police officer’s promotion!

***

Moreover, it is known that Ahsen had previously obtained a medical report of assault from H.A. and went to the police. Her friend who accompanied her to the police station verifies this.

The friend claims that the police officer there refused to take Ahsen’s statement, saying, “H.A.’s rank will be reduced, he will not be able to get promoted,” and went to great lengths to avoid doing so.

So, even if there may not be a connection to Ahsen’s death today, a police officer who committed violence against a woman has been promoted.

***

Was the police officer who failed to take Ahsen’s statement and committed malpractice identified at the time? Was an investigation launched? These questions also await answers.

According to information obtained by Özgür Gazete, H.A., whose statement was taken in the first days of the incident, showed the police a text message. In that message, H.A. tells a friend, “I came to the forest on my own to clear my head.”

In other words, H.A. says, “Look, I was alone in the forest on the day of the incident,” and the police accept this as proof, stating, “H.A. was in the forest on the day of the incident.”

This has not been confirmed, or denied. H.A., who only showed a text message, has been cleared of the incident.

***

Furthermore, from the very first day, the question, “Is H.A. working for the Famagusta police or the Trikomo police?”has not been answered deliberately, leaving the matter unclear and creating an environment where H.A. is being confused with another police officer working in Famagusta.

However, H.A. was exiled from the Famagusta Police Department exactly three years ago. He has been working at the Trikomo Police Department for the past three years. (The reasons for this are the subject of another article.)

Not only is the investigation into Ahsen’s suspicious death being handled in this manner, but the name of another police officer is also being deliberately involved in the case.

Everything is being done for H.A.!

One can’t help but wonder!

Who the hell is this H.A.?

***

The lawyers have submitted three petitions to the police. One of them states: “The investigation should be handed over to an independent investigative police officer from another district.”

How reasonable a request is that?

But no, it’s not being done!

***

Now we ask, who has taken away H.A.’s right to be cleared? Is it the society, or the police organisation itself?

Why does the society still see him as a suspect? Has it gone mad?

Who is protecting H.A.? Why wasn’t he treated like a regular citizen?

While a police officer accused of such allegations and violence against a woman is being promoted, who can trust a police officer as such? Does the organisation not feel any shame about this situation?

What about the Security Forces Command, to which the organisation is affiliated? Does this situation not concern them either?

***

In short;

Instead of blaming the media with its statements, the Police Department should look into this shameful situation. If they have wives, daughters, and mothers, they should be able to look them in the face with ease.

We will continue to speak out and write for our sister Ahsen.

We will continue to expose the disgraceful actions of this male-dominated police/military organisation.

We are not done here yet!
