It was clear that a policy based on jingoism and lies, which disregarded international law, would one day hit a wall. And now it has, and it has hit it hard…
Our people talk of nothing else but the Greek Cypriot government’s increasingly widespread arrests related to Greek Cypriot property in Northern Cyprus, and the question of “What will happen now?” is being asked on an everyday basis.
Many people are looking for lawyers, or anyone who might be able to offer some insight on the matter…
Even highly educated people believed in the politics that was pursued, or at least pretended to believe in it because it suited their interests.
Perhaps they were assigned to do this job, and their task was to convince others to believe in it as well, which they succeeded in doing to a certain extent…
They tagged others along… “The Greek Cypriot properties are yours, and the state is your guarantor,” they said.
Which state, though? The Turkish Federated State of Cyprus, or the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus?
The state established in 1983 has not yet become legal, or recognized, and as a result, its citizens have suffered all kinds of injustices and continue to do so.
Was the Turkish Federated State of Cyprus running out of steam?
Was it necessary to establish a new state?
Look back and see what it has brought us.
On the contrary, it has brought you more losses, but if you say so, they call you a ‘traitor’ and a ‘traitor to the homeland.’
They do not want to hear the truth. We have suffered so much, and the situation is getting worse as time goes by.
We cannot annihilate the UN Security Council resolutions that do not recognise the TRNC, and they do not want to accept this either.
A group of Turkic states opening embassies in Southern Cyprus and acknowledging the UN Security Council resolutions that do not recognise the TRNC were explained in various ways.
Whatever the reason, the truth is that even the countries we call our ‘friends’ do not recognise the TRNC and will not recognise it.
No country in the world will set aside its own interests and lose something, or get punished in a sense, in order to recognise the TRNC. That recognition will never come…
Even Turkey, which recognises the TRNC, also recognises the Republic of Cyprus in many official occasions, particularly in sports competitions. The Turkish flag flies in the Republic of Cyprus, and the flag of the Republic of Cyprus flies in Turkey.
These two countries, which supposedly do not recognise each other, actually do recognise each other in many fields.
I do not condemn them… I can understand… Turkey recognises the Republic of Cyprus in some way so as not to be excluded from certain international organisations.
What I cannot accept is that while they recognize each other in some way and have relations with each other, it is the Turkish Cypriots who are always excluded, and those who say “we want a federal solution in Cyprus” are called ‘traitors’, or ‘Greek Cypriot sympathizers’.
Look, they lied to us; the Greek Cypriot property has never been ours and never will be.
Exchange title deeds have no international validity… Look, we are experiencing this first-hand.
Getting carried away and rendering the Immovable Property Commission ineffective has also cost us dearly…
The Greek Cypriot government has used the law as a political tool and launched an attack, making arrests and issuing arrest warrants.
Contractors, real estate agents, those involved in the sale of properties with exchange title deeds, and now even ordinary citizens who buy and sell properties with exchange title deeds are on the list of those to be arrested.
They have also started to include employees of construction companies, real estate agents, architects and engineers on the lists.
In the coming days, all businesses operating on Greek Cypriot property will be blacklisted.
The majority of people working, or living in the TRNC will not be able to leave the country, and if they do, they will be arrested.
Even those wanted with a red notice will be in danger of entering Turkey…
What will those who do not want a solution in Cyprus, who reject the UN parameters, who supposedly challenge the world, who consider remaining outside international law an advantage, and who determine the so-called new politics do now? They are not even talking about it.
Of course, the Hristodulidis government is not innocent, nor is it angelic, but who gave it all these trump cards? Of course, it is the wrong policies of the Turkish Cypriot side, the indifference of our country’s leaders, their disillusionment… If you take the wrong steps, you lose your rightful position and become the victim.
With jingoism and cliché heroism, this is as far as you can go…
There is a news item on the front page of today’s Kıbrıs Gazetesi, still talking about state guarantees, with a Real Estate Agents Association official saying, “The title structure and property security are guaranteed by our state.” Let’s see if your state protects you in the open-air prison it has created…
Others say that the arrests made by the Greek Cypriot government have been exploited by the left-wing opposition and civil society organizations to attack the government, and that the main opposition is pinning its hopes on this and dreaming of coming to power. Additionally, they claim that this issue has turned into a matter of reviving the federation thesis… Enough already, is this how you ‘interpret the issue’? Does no one dare to speak the truth? Those who criticise will also suffer from the injustices created, just like the rest of the society. Should they not feel anxious? Should they remain silent?
Look, while this major problem is unfolding, the Prime Minister and ministers are touring the country, highlighting projects whose financial resources were provided by Turkey and boasting about ‘their achievements,’ but they are not doing what they should be doing. They are not even talking about the property issue. What action plan is there against these arrests? Is there one?
The country is already being governed terribly, our people are drowning in problems; corruption, irregularities, incompetence, and partisanship have ruined us. Now, as if those weren’t enough, we have moved further away from a solution and are now trapped in the TRNC due to the Greek Cypriot government’s arrest decisions.
Bravo to you, let’s see how you get out of this mess… However, I see that while the people of this country are facing the greatest challenge in history, those in power are still coming forward with empty words and boasts.
Are you still refusing to acknowledge this great failure, this great collapse? What a hopeless case this is…
