SOCIETY IS SHEDDING TEARS OF BLOOD, THEY HAVE OTHER CONCERNS?

ΕΛΛΗΝΙΚΑ (GREEK) TÜRKÇE (TURKISH)

We are going through very difficult days; people are experiencing indescribable pain…

Starting with Adıyaman, we are receiving reports of casualties from Turkey’s earthquake-stricken areas one after the other…

People are praying from dawn to dusk for a miracle, for someone to be pulled alive from under the rubble of Isias Hotel…

Everything has been cancelled, and there is only one item here on everyone’s agenda, and that is the earthquake and our brothers and sisters who are trapped under the rubble…

An example of solidarity is being displayed, aid is being collected, and many have volunteered to go to the earthquake zone to help…

While this is the situation, there are some who are concerned with other issues, one person in particular…

That person is the Minister of Foreign Affairs Tahsin Ertuğruloğlu…

We get it, Tahsin bey has a different outlook towards the world, politics and the Cyprus problem.

Jingoism is part of his life, he hates the words “solution” and “peace”.

Actually, if you were to ask him, he would tell you he doesn’t hate these words but the understanding of peace or a “solution in Cyprus” in his mind, is one that is very different from ours…

He hates the Greek Cypriots, the Europeans, and the UN, and we know that too…

Alright we understand, this is how Tahsin bey is, we can’t change him but given that society is going through so much pain and when everyone is experiencing so much grief, he should at least hold himself back, and if not, keep quiet…

And while he keeps quiet, he should refrain from using his position to create obstacles…

Tahsin bey was nowhere to be seen straight after the earthquake but suddenly and rampantly he came in sight after the Greek Cypriot press reported that a team from South Cyprus was to take part in rescue efforts in Turkey’s earthquake-stricken areas…

The Greek Cypriot press is writing lies, the Greek Cypriot administration is exploiting the earthquake for political purposes, and is trying to harm ties between us and Turkey.

That is what Tahsin bey is saying… Turkey had not granted them permission but the Greek Cypriots were saying that they were going.

People are fighting for their lives, but Tahsin bey has other concerns.

If Turkey hasn’t given permission, there’s no permission, if they won’t be able to go they won’t and if they’re lying they’re lying. If indeed they are lying, their lies will be revealed sooner or later.

Well, what’s Tahsin bey’s problem? Was it necessary for Tahsin bey who was nowhere to be found for days to rampantly emerge after hearing the word Greek Cypriot while everyone is going through so much pain?

Does he start to itch when he hears the terms “aid”, “contribution”, and “friendship” together with the words Greek Cypriot?

The whole place is on fire, everyone has their heart in their mouth, people are going through hell and back with the news of deaths, and are going crazy but while all this is going on, Tahsin bey visits Turkey, claiming that Greek Cypriots are making insidious plans and are going to separate Turkish Cypriots from Turkey…

What in God’s name is all this? Is this the time for all this? The goat grieves over its life, the butcher over his meat… [Translators note: Turkish idiom which translates to every person views things in the light of his own interest]

And if that wasn’t enough, unable to slow down, Tahsin bey prevented the delivery of aid packages collected by Greek Cypriot volunteers from South Cyprus for earthquake survivors in Turkey to North Cyprus.

Officials at the crossing point refused to take the aid packages.

They even said that there was a malfunction in the computer system at the crossing point so as not to allow the aid boxes through.

In the end, following the persistence of volunteers from both communities, cases of water were allowed through the checkpoint but there was no permission for the other supplies.

They collected 3000 boxes of aid, but we are refusing to take it. Do you know why? The officials [at the crossing point] claimed they could not see the contents of the boxes and that there could be things hidden in them.

And they allowed the water bottles through because they were transparent…

Get a load of that? I mean what did the Greek Cypriots do, place bombs in the aid boxes? Well then if you really don’t trust them then just assign two people to check the boxes…

It’s unbelievable… what kind of a mentality is this? This is aid man… aid, to assist the earthquake-affected areas. Those areas need this aid.

This aid will not reach the places where they are needed the most because of your rubbish and delusional ideas.

Now, we learn that the Greek Cypriots will be sending this aid via Greece. Having placed an obstacle on the short route, these boxes will now have to be transported for kilometres [before] reaching Turkey. And what will those who prevented this gain? Nothing of course… This is nothing but meaningless stubbornness…

One feels like screaming when you think that people with such festering minds still make decisions in difficult times as these.

Such minds do not benefit us either in domestic or foreign politics or in times of such humanitarian situations. And to make matters worse, they treat these people as if they are gold, that is what really infuriates me…
