For several days now, that photo will not leave my mind…
The photo of a handcuffed university student girl, accused of “burglary and theft” is actually a reflection of the tyrannical “regime” in the north of Cyprus… [Translator’s note: reference to student who broke into a quarantine centre to set her cat free]
It’s obvious that the police have failed to comprehend the reaction and “sensitivity” shown to the matter by society…
The explanation provided, listing all the articles of the Criminal Law and stating that, “This is common practice…” is really unfortunate…
Handcuffing a female student is, of course, an “administrative” practice… It has nothing to do with the law…
One of the commanding officers gives the order, “Put on handcuffs,” and the police comply…
That’s why those who should actually be ashamed are the “politicians” in power…
First and foremost, Ersin Tatar should not allow these “foolish acts” that depict his administration as “tyrannical”…
Are you going to promote the recognition of the “equal and sovereign” state with these images reminiscent of a “garrison” instead of the days when the late [former Turkish PM Bülent] Ecevit praised us, saying, “The Turkish Cypriot police in Cyprus do not carry guns”?
Of course, the world has not recognized the structure called the TRNC. It does not recognize and it will not recognize…
This is not even a fantasy…
But, with these images, you are jeopardizing the existence of a “Turkish Cypriot” community that has just as much equal rights in Cyprus as the Greek Cypriots do…
You are presenting the Turkish Cypriot community, the police, justice, and the judiciary to the world as an “archaic” police state…
Then, you turn around and demand that the UN should recognize our “equal sovereignty” and “international status”…
You make big, grandiose and defiant “calls” to the UN…
You try to give an organisation made up of nearly 200 states a “lesson” without considering your stature… You ask the United Nations to abandon its current “theses” and listen to the “bigotries” of Tatar, Zorlu Töre, and [Tahsin] Ertuğruloğlu…
They won’t buy it…
And indeed, they didn’t…
Just recently, the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) once again slammed the “separatist” policies imposed by Ankara and subcontracted by Tatar…
The Turkish side’s obsession with the “two-state” solution was not taken seriously at all…
In its latest statement, the UN reaffirmed its commitment to the old UNSC resolutions and its support to a federal solution based on political equality, once again, loud and clear…
In other words, the fact that the Turkish Cypriot side was hitting its head on a brick wall with its “two-state” separatism was declared to the entire world…
Let’s remember: Turkish President Erdoğan had made a call to the world from the UN’s podium…
“Recognize the TRNC”, he had said…
Is there a single soul who accepted this invitation? Even express support for it? Has an inch of progress been achieved with this policy? Of course, none of these happened…
And it won’t happen…
Only politicians like Tatar, Zorlu Töre, and Ertuğruloğlu will challenge the world and the UN, bragging and defying, and BRT will present their delusions to the public day and night, but their voices will not go beyond Sarayönü [Translator’s note: Sarayönü Square or Seragi Square located in Nicosia’s walled city was once the centre of Turkish Cypriot politics]…
It has always been this way…
And it is still the same…
It was first Ertuğruloğlu who condemned the UN following this “heavy blow” of a statement made by the UN…
Then the Turkish Foreign Ministry said it supported Tahsin Bey who condemned the UN… Then Tatar and Zorlu Töre made grandiose statements…
But their words altogether were “not worth a fig”…
The Turkish Foreign Ministry speaks on our behalf and issues statements…
They say the UN Security Council is disconnected from reality. So, what is the reality: The federal solution model does not reflect the will of the Turkish Cypriot people…
The Turkish Foreign Ministry says the UN should understand that “we have withdrawn our support from the federation.”
They need to grasp this reality.
Oh, “intellectually deficient” USA…
Intellectually deficient France, UK, China, Russia…
Doesn’t the Turkish Foreign Ministry know that this society has registered before the whole world its “will” regarding a “federation” in a referendum? Don’t they know about the agreement signed by Eroğlu-Anastasiades on February 11, 2014? Don’t they know that those who said “two states” were defeated in recent local and by-elections?
Don’t they know that imposing “preconditions” in diplomacy means losing prestige in the eyes of the world and that the party that walks away from the table is blamed?
After all these years, don’t they see the damage challenging these principles that the Turkish Foreign Ministry “carefully” protected for all these years will cause?
Of course, when a UN member state speaks like this, our “three musketeers” also wave their wooden swords to the world with a spoiled childlike attitude…
They challenge the Security Council…
They demand respect for our will…
They engage in “isolation” rhetoric…
They tell the UN that the Greek Cypriots have deceived them…
In other words; the USA, Russia, France, they are all fools…
They are all enemies to us…
All these countries have a comprehension problem…
They can’t understand us…
Only Tatar sees the truth…
Zorlu Töre sees it…
Tahsin Ertuğruloğlu sees it…
Look what Mr Tatar said to a group of pensioners the other day. “The perception of a two-state solution is increasingly taking root.” So, the whole case is about creating a “perception”…
As if the whole world has understood us and as if someone is trying to recognize us…
In fact, none of this is true…
We are struggling in a huge whirlwind of lies…
They are telling the public huge unheard lies… It’s nothing but “Turkish propaganda for Turks”… Moreover, this “propaganda” is constantly getting slapped by the world…
Will the recent “slap” from the UN bring them to their senses? Never…
